What happens?  The consentual reaction – a) blood vessels in the feet expand. b) gradually all other blood vessels in the surface of the body also expand, first in the legs, then those of the abdomen and back , then those of the chest and shoulders, and latterly, those of the throat and head.  This expansion of the blood vessels thus travels upwards from the feet to the head.  It affects only the peripheral bloodstreams to begin with, i.e., the blood vessels in the surface of the body.
